"This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind...let it be something good."

This multi-service facility is licensed and certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health. Thompkins Center offers an intensive treatment program based on a pro-social point/phase system that helps clients achieve skill development at their own pace. Clients are offered daily goals groups, milieu therapy groups, and other groups that meet the specific needs of the clients in residence.

Individual and family counseling are offered twice weekly to each client, as well as Community Support Services to provide linkage for specific treatment needs.

Pharmacotherapy services are offered weekly for medication monitoring to the client with a strong emphasis on mental health education for the parent/guardian.

Each client assists in developing his/her own Individual Service Plan that addresses mental health and personal care needs. Clients attend public school and are offered assistance with their academic needs by certified teachers.

Thompkins Center is a community based program and clients are encouraged to learn skills that will assist them in assimilating into the community. Opportunities for therapeutic activities and other community involvement are offered.

Boy's Transitional Living

Adolescents who are in need of a step-down in their treatment in order to focus on life skills or if an older adolescent is in need of a placement in which to emancipate, the Transitional Living Program fills that need. This four bed facility for males ages 15.5-18 offers youth a structured program while still having the freedom of living in the community. The program is staffed 24/7 by trained Residential Treatment Assistants who assist clients in learning skills such as job skills, meal preparation, and budgeting. Clients are expected to fulfill specific tasks as established by the program level system. Tasks are geared toward allowing the client to learn skills that will assist them toward the next transition in their life. Clients are encouraged to obtain employment and establish a savings account in collaboration with their legal guardian. Clients attend public school or work toward completion of their G.E.D., with prior approval from their home school district.

Each client assists in developing his own Individual Service Plan, along with their parent or guardian. Individual/family counseling is offered weekly. Pharmacotherapy services are offered monthly.

In the final level of the program, clients are expected to have achieved a level of responsibility. This responsibility will allow them to have additional freedoms that will help them experience independence while living in the safety of the program environment.

Dual Diagnosis Program

This treatment facility specializes in adolescents age 14-18 who have both a substance abuse issue and also a mental health diagnosis. This four bed facility offers an intensive 60 day treatment program which consists of a combination of chemical dependency and mental health therapy.

Clients in the D/D program will not attend public school during their treatment. However, their educational needs will be met by coordinating with their home school or by participating in an online learning environment via the internet.

A positive, chemical free and healthy lifestyle will be developed with the client, as well as coping skills. Chemical dependency group is offered five days a week as well as Mental Health counseling. Community resources will also be engaged to help the client remain chemical free after discharge.

An Individual Service Plan for the client will be developed as a collaborative effort between the client, parent/guardian, and the treatment professionals. Visitation and communication are generally limited for the first ten days, as agreed upon by the legal guardian.

In addition to the residential component, home based services will be linked with the client and their family upon discharge. This service will assist in the ongoing treatment and relapse prevention. In the event of relapse the client may be evaluated for re-admission to the residential component for an additional 45 days.
